DVB CN, 8/22/11
Chinese online TV station China United Television (CUTV) plans to officially launch on August 25, offering channels for news, films, TV series, and other content.
The news channel will rely on a combination of TV news rebroadcasts, news commentary, and user-generated content to build a 24-hour news channel and audience participation platform centered on current events. The film and TV drama channel will offer a major new film or TV series title each month, and is being developed in partnership with Zhejiang-based Huace Film & TV (300133.SZ), and CUTV also is considering investing in TV content production and copyright licensing as it continues to expand operations. CUTV's society channel will feature celebrity talk shows and discussion programs. CUTV will also offer VOD from all regional TV stations.
In addition to 14 city-level TV stations, five print media firms, including Trends Media Group, have stakes in CUTV. CUTV deputy general manager Jiang Yuxia said CUTV has access to more than 10,000 producers, presenters and reporters nationwide, over 77 self-operated TV channels, can post online more than 300 original video pieces each day, and can produce over 200 hours of original content daily.
