Industry Association Releases Smart Device App SDK
Tencent Tech, 8/11/11
The China Smart Device Tech Standards Association, established this May by Chinese consumer electronics manufacturers Changhong (600839.SH), Hisense (600060.SH) and TCL (000100.SZ), yesterday in Beijing launched an integrated SDK for developing applications for smart devices – including TV sets, handsets, and tablets – for the association’s own app store. The association’s next step will be to develop technical standards for the app store, multi-screen interactivity across PCs, mobiles, and TVs, and a smart TV operating system.
Version 1.0 of the SDK can be used to develop both Android and Linux applications compatible with TCL, Changhong and Hisense devices. Remote controls for TCL, Changhong, and Hisense smart devices will also be interoperable.
The association yesterday also admitted a number of new members, including Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company MediaTek (MTK), MStar Semiconductor, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), software provider Neusoft (600718.SH), online search giant Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), internet firm Sina (Nasdaq: SINA), Orca Digital (operator of online music site Top100.cn), Chinese IT products retail chain Hisap, and Innovation Works' Android app store start-up, AppChina.com.
