Powerleader Invests in 20 Game Development Teams

Tencent Tech, 7/27/11

Li Ruijie, president and CEO of Shenzhen-based online game developer and operator Powerleader Network (a.k.a ZQGame) (300052.SZ) said at the 9th annual China Digital Entertainment Expo and Conference (ChinaJoy) in Shanghai yesterday that Powerleader has approached more than 100 game development teams in an effort to increase its acquisitions this year, and already made investments in nearly 20 development teams.

In a large number of the teams in which it has invested, Li said, Powerleader holds a share of 51% or more, and holds a 20% or more share in a minority of companies. In none of the companies does it control less than 20% or more than 80%. Powerleader employs more than 1,600 people, with more than 800 employees at its headquarters and more than 800 on its outside development teams.

Powerleader has seen fairly good performance for its games in overseas markets including Germany, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The company's US subsidiary is preparing to work on a game of its own.
