Tianya, 9You Halt Operations of Browser Game
National Business Daily, 7/07/11
Hainan-based online community site operator Tianya Online Network Tech and Shanghai-based online game operator Everstar Online Entertainment (9You) have announced that they have ceased operating licensed browser game DDTank.
According to a Tianya spokesperson, the two companies halted operations after receiving a notice from the game's developer, 7Road Technology.
9You said that co-operated games like DDTank usually have a contract expiration date, and this was the reason for the suspension of operations.
7Road Technology has yet to announce its reasons for requesting a halt to operations.
An industry source disclosed that social game and browser game developers are in a weak position compared to game operators. Taking certain social networking sites and game developers as an example, a source at a social gaming company explained that game developers could take as much as a 48% revenue share, but that this was relatively high for the industry. If the game operator provides its own servers, it usually takes a larger share, and the largest operators can take as much as 80% of revenues.
