Rovio to Open China Office, Stores

Rovio, Finnish developer of the mobile device game Angry Birds, has revealed that it is plans to open an office in China to develop games for the domestic market and explore partnership opportunities. Rovio also plans to open a flagship store in China by the end of the year selling branded products including clothing and stationery. A spokesperson for Rovio China predicted that within the next three years, the company will open up to 200 stores across China.
Since Rovio began selling Angry Birds merchandise online last year, it has sold a total of 3 mln of its plush toys alone, and global revenue from sales of various spin-off merchandise has surpassed GBP 50 mln. In China, unlicensed "Angry Bird"-themed mobile phone cases and protective screen covers, clutch pillows, t-shirts and many other similar products have been available for purchase on Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao for quite some time.
