China Mobile to Launch Mobile Animation Commercial Trials

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) will start trial commercial operations of its mobile animation services in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Henan, Hunan, Inner Mongolia, and Fujian provinces this month. Services will include animated MMS, mobile comic books, mobile cartoons, and OS themes. The operator already has 1,890 comics and 452 cartoons in its library, and has made 277 comics (in 1,154 issues) and 40 cartoon series (in 722 episodes) available to regular users. Customers can choose to access content through monthly subscriptions or on-demand viewing, and can log into the site over WAP or through a downloaded native client, or view cartoons as MMS attachments.
China Mobile founded its animation production base in Fujian in November 2009. As of the end of March, the operator had a total of 2.04 mln animation subscribers, and an average of 3,364 viewers of mobile cartoons over WAP every day.
