Chongqing Starts Construction of RMB 40 Bln Cloud Computing Center

Chongqing municipality recently began construction of the Liangjiang International Cloud Computing Center, which will house the China International Electronic Commerce Center's (CIECC) Chongqing Data Industrial Park. CIECC is the executive organization under the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) responsible for informatization construction and technical support.
The location chosen for the international cloud computing center is within the Shuitu High-tech Industrial Park, in Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area. Planning for the project includes nearly 3 square km for construction of server rooms; with buildings set to cover an area of 2.07 mln square meters, total investment for the project is planned at RMB 40 bln.
As the first project to enter the Liangjiang International Cloud Computing Center, the CIECC's Chongqing Data Industrial Park building will occupy 250,000 square meters and will be built using RMB 1.6 bln in funding from the CIECC itself. The project is expected to be completed within the next two years. CIECC director Liu Junsheng said that the project, the result of cooperation between MOFCOM and Chongqing, will serve as an outsourcing platform for cloud computing, M2M and other IT services.
The Chongqing municipal government expects to see the city's software outsourcing and information services industry value surpass RMB 180 bln by 2020.
