Desktop and laptop PC manufacturer Dell recently held an opening ceremony for its Chengdu Global Operation Facility at Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone.
Dell signed an agreement in September with the Chengdu Municipal government to build its second mainland China operations facility in the Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone.
The facility will primarily function as a manufacturing center, with a complete production line to cover Dell's entire range of customers, including government service, large businesses, consumers, and small- and medium-sized enterprise. The facility is expected to become operational by Q4 2012, and should contribute to Dell's global supply volume by 2013.
The facility will supply international and domestic markets with the support and of its Xiamen operation center. The building and operation of this facility will create over 3,000 job opportunities in and around Chengdu in the next few years.
Intel, TI, Foxconn, Lenovo, Compal, and Wistron all reportedly have offices in Chengdu. The computer production capacity of Chengdu is expected to reach 100 mln units in October 2011, accounting for 20% of the world's total and 170 mln units in 2013.
