Tencent Launches E-Commerce Site Reward Points Alliance
Legal Evening News, 3/10/11
On March 7, Shenzhen-based internet company Tencent (0700.HK) announced the launch of a new reward points system alliance, QQ Caibei ("QQ Cowries") (cb.qq.com). The alliance will allow users to gain "Caibei points" for any purchases they make on Tencent's platform or allied platforms; points will be redeemable for prizes and services from Tencent or its partners.
In addition to the points system, the alliance will also roll out unified logins, allowing users to log into and manage their accounts on different websites using their QQ account, rather than having to create a new account for each site.
Businesses who partner with Tencent on Caibei will receive resources and support from the company's other open platforms, including its QQ instant messaging, SNS, and TenPay online payment platforms.
According to Tencent, the first batch of partners for the Caibei Alliance includes Chinese B2C online shoe retailer Letao, B2C e-commerce site Yihaodian.com, and online men's clothing retailer Justyle, as well as other B2C sites operating in the areas of travel, apparel, general goods, and books and periodicals.
