Sina Microblog Launches Group Buy Social Platform

Chinese internet company Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) has launched a group buy offer subscription service for its Sina Weibo microblogging platform that allows users to receive group buy messages that meet their selected criteria for location, product category, price, group buy site, and keywords.
Participating group sites include 58tuan (t.58.com), Groupon.cn, Meituan.com, 24Quan.com, Lashou.com, Nuomi.com, Dianping.com, and others.
The platform is closely tied to Weibo with a number of social features, including "Friends Activity," "Group Buy Communities," and "Wish List" functionality.
The Friends Activity feature displays Weibo friends shared group buy purchases, bookmarks, wish lists, and custom subscriptions. The Group Buy Communities include areas for talking about discounts, reselling group buy purchases, showing off purchases, and user complaints. Users can also post items to their Wish List, and the Wish List channel will list the most wanted items, enabling users to better organize group purchases.
The platform also incorporates a rewards point system, with points awarded for such activities as sharing, new member invitations, comments, bookmarks, and purchases, which can in turn be used to purchase products and coupons.
Sina previously launched a standalone group buy site, Sina Tuan (life.sina.com.cn/tuan), which offers deals on dining, entertainment, sports, and air and train tickets.
