China Rejects Sharp LCD Plant Proposal Unless Using 10G

Sina Tech, 2/21/11

The Chinese government has rejected Sharp's proposal to build an LCD display production line in Nanjing, according to Japanese media, because Sharp planned to use outdated technology. Authorities said Sharp must build the facility using the latest LCD technology.

In October 2009, Sharp established a 10G LCD plant in Japan, while the plant in Nanjing would have employed 8G LCD technology.

Editor's Note: Chinese authorities have confirmed that unless Sharp deploys 10G LCD production technology in Nanjing, the proposal will be rejected. For more background on this topic, please see "Update: Sharp, CEC, Nanjing Ink 6G, 8G TFT-LCD Deal" MD 8/31/09 issue.
