Dangdang to Establish Logistics Open Platform
Netease Tech, 2/21/11
Chinese B2C e-commerce site Dangdang (NYSE: DANG) announced today that it is in the process of assembling an open logistics platform that it will use to provide delivery services for third-party e-commerce companies.
Dangdang is currently setting up a delivery services company in which it will hold a controlling stake. Using this as a platform, Dangdang will share its delivery and logistics resources with other joint operators of the company, or possibly with third-party e-commerce companies, offering product storage, sorting and selecting, packaging, and COD delivery services in more than 1,200 cities around the country. Platform technology development and company registration are essentially complete, and the platform is now undergoing technical testing.
Dangdang VP of operations Zhang Yun said that the open logistics platform brings together the third-party delivery companies that Dangdang already uses, while adding a set of common service standards and a strict service evaluation system.
Zhang said that besides paying a bonus to logistics staff who worked overtime during the recent Chinese New Year holiday, Dangdang also paid an additional Chinese New Year bonus to companies that supported it in its campaign to continue operations over the holiday.
