Ex-Google Executive Joins Goso, Replaces Assistant GM
Tencent Tech, 2/21/11
Former deputy director at Google China's Research Institute Liu Jun has joined the People's Daily-operated Chinese search engine Goso.cn as chief scientist. With the news that Liu will oversee Goso's technology department come industry rumors that Goso assistant GM Gong Yuguo has left the company. Goso and Gong both confirmed the news, but added that the decision was made prior to the Chinese New Year holidays and is unrelated to Liu's arrival.
Gong was both a senior figure and operations executive at Goso from its launch, and oversaw initial operations of the site. Following former ping-pong star Deng Yaping's appointment as president of Goso, Gong remained in charge of operations.
A Goso employee has revealed that with his appointment, Liu will now take over Gong's previous responsibilities.
Editor's Note: Liu Jun's own company, Yunrang Information Technology, is rumored to have built a search engine that will be used to power Goso. Yunrang reportedly has investment from Sina or top Sina management.
