Sina Tech, 2/12/11
According to its official human resources website, Chinese online game portal and browser game operator Duowan has raised USD 100 mln in second-round funding. The funding, led by a US-based Tiger fund, will primarily be used to support Duowan's YY instant messenger platform.
Duowan's HR listings are primarily for engineers for the YY development team. The company is specifically seeking engineers with expertise in server and client architecture, information security, system maintenance, QA testing, R&D and other skill areas. In addition, the company has also placed ads seeking employees for the website and gaming divisions.
According to a source within Duowan, YY has reached over 3 mln peak concurrent users. The YY project has an annual budget exceeding RMB 100 mln.
Duowan president David Li (Li Xueling) would not comment on the latest round of fundraising. Li has noted in the past that Duowan has already achieved profitability.
Editor's Note: Duowan's HR website revealed the amount of funding as of the morning of February 12, but by later the same afternoon reference to the funding had been removed.
