GAPP Organizes 16 Chinese Gaming Firms into Copyright Alliance

General Administration of Press and Publication's (GAPP) Department of Technology and Digital Publishing and Copyright Protection Center of China have jointly directed 16 of China's online gaming companies and organizations to form the "China Online Gaming Copyright Protection Alliance" to combat game copyright infringement issues.
The first 16 members include the Copyright Agency Center of China, and Chinese online game operators Changyou (Nasdaq: CYOU), Perfect World (Nasdaq: PWRD), Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA), KongZhong (Nasdaq: KONG), NetDragon Websoft (0777.HK), Netease (Nasdaq: NTES), Giant Interactive (NYSE: GA), Kingsoft (3888.HK), Shanda subsidiary Shanghai Shengju Network Technology, The9 (Nasdaq: NCTY), Youyou Network Technology, Storm Entertainment, Jubao Network Technology, Shanghai Digital Entertainment Center, and 4399.com.
Kou Xiaowei, deputy director of the Department of Technology and Digital Publishing, said the Alliance will primarily focus on protecting copyrights of online gaming products, which will encompass protecting users' personal data and cracking down on cheat software.
