Kingsoft: Qihoo 360 Server Collected Users' Private Data
Sina Tech, 12/31/10
Kingsoft's (3888.HK) anti-virus subsidiary Kingsoft Network Technology called a press conference today to announce that Chinese internet users' private data might be at risk owing to a security breach in a server operated by Chinese online security software developer Qihoo 360. Kingsoft has informed the Ministry of Public Security and other authorities, and recommended Qihoo 360 users change their passwords.
According to a report from Kingsoft Security Center (www.ijinshan.com), user names and passwords could be found on multiple websites via web searches conducted on December 30 and 31. An investigation by Kingsoft engineers traced the information to a Qihoo 360 server, accessible via an ordinary URL, containing detailed PC MAC addresses, user browser histories, user names and passwords. CEO of Kingsoft Network Technology Fu Sheng said that Qihoo 360 had collected records on millions of users in a serious breach of user privacy, as browsing and downloading histories can be used to identify specific users.
The server is currently down, and Qihoo 360 has yet to respond to the allegations.
