China Drafts E-Commerce Policies for Five-Year Plan

Tencent Finance, 12/20/10

Nine national government bodies, including China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), have finished drafting e-commerce policies for China's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), and expect e-commerce transaction volume to double between 2011-2015. The policies aim to promote e-commerce, particularly among traditional industries such as large companies, trade and logistics firms, and the tourism industry, increasing the amount of online procurement and sales; encourage the development of innovative e-commerce applications such as m-commerce; and construct a robust e-commerce statistics system.
