Tencent SNS Open Platform Lowers Barriers to Entry
TechWeb, 12/13/10
Tencent (0700.HK) has announced three changes to its Tencent SNS Open Platform: lower barriers to entry, increased support, and improved cloud services.
The platform (opensns.qq.com) has received numerous applications and is adding new applications daily. Currently, a dozen or more third-party games and applications have been added to Tencent's Qzone SNS.
According to Tencent, some developers' monthly revenue share had exceeded RMB 2 mln as of October 2010, and some had earned even more.
Another Tencent SNS, Pengyou ("Friends") (pengyou.qq.com), has established an experience area where Tencent-approved applications debut. Applications that perform well enough on Pengyou are then introduced on Qzone. Tencent plans to launch user-driven application evaluation systems on both SNS platforms.
Beijing-based social game developer Qile Interactive has revealed that users of its social game Ocean Secret reached 30 mln after joining Tencent's SNS Open Platform, nearly one-third of whom are daily active users. Daily average revenue has already reached the six-digit range.
