China Mandates Permits for Online Publishing

Sina Tech, 12/10/10

The Chinese General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) recently issued a notification requiring all entities currently operating in the online publishing industry to apply for publishing permits from their local News Publishing Administration Bureau offices by January 31, 2011. The policy is aimed at regulating commercial activity in the sector, and promoting "healthy development" of the industry. Online publishing companies that fail to complete applications by the deadline will be banned in accordance with Chinese law.
