Rumor: Ericsson Manager Assists Sichuan Mobile Bribery Probe

Economic Observer, 12/10/10

An Ericsson sales manager for the region is currently assisting China's Ministry of Public Security in its investigation of the recent Sichuan Mobile bribery scandal, according to an industry source. The Ericsson employee, Frank Li, is currently a focus of the investigation, according to the source.

Though there is no evidence connecting Li to the bribery charges, said the source, the investigation will expand beyond Sichuan Mobile to other China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 09 41.HK) branches. The source claimed that Guangdong Mobile will likely be the next provincial branch to be caught in the scandal, but the investigation has been delayed for the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.

So far, there has been no official confirmation of these rumors.
