Chinese online game developer and operator Tencent (0700.HK) unveiled 22 new products during the 2010 Tencent Games Carnival in Shanghai last weekend. Three client-based online games - licensed 3D MMORPG Continent of the Ninth (C9), self-developed MMORPG Dou Zhanshen, and licensed FPS War of Zombie - were displayed, as well as three browser games: licensed game Super Star Online, self-developed games Mohuan Dalu and licensed Xinghun Chuanshuo. Dou Zhanshen, which takes place in an Asian mythological setting, utilizes Tencent's own self-developed game engine.
Mark Ren, president of Tencent Games, announced at the Carnival that while Tencent Games has no plans to establish its own development team in Beijing, it is keen to cooperate with Beijing-based products and developers. Ren has previously disclosed that Tencent Games has R&D bases in Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Chengdu, as well as Boston in the United States, employing nearly 2,000 developers.
In H2 2011, Tencent Games will launch a number of self-developed products, including the 3D fantasy MMORPG Legend of Xuanyuan developed by Tencent Games' own Aurora Studios, currently in its final closed beta; 3D MMORPG Legend of Yulong, developed by Tencent Games' Jade Studio, which has already entered its second round of technical testing.
Tencent Games VP Wang Bo also revealed that Tencent Games and Beijing-based developer Gamegoo's strategy browser game Qi Xiong Zheng Ba has exceeded 600,000 peak concurrent users (PCU) since it began open beta testing in August.
