Shanda Interactive Denies Layoff Rumors
Sohu IT, 12/06/10
A spokesperson for Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA) denied rumors that the Shanghai-based Internet company would lay off 400 employees. The spokesperson said that Shanda was in the process of having evidence notarized in order to pursue legal action against the spreaders of the rumor.
Reports surfaced today that said Shanda had carried out a "layoff blitz" affecting more than 400 people, including employees in Shanda subsidiaries Hurray, Chengdu-based Internet cafe management software provider Jisheng Technology, and Shanda Games (Nasdaq: GAME).
Editor's Note: An industry source had previously reported that Shanda Games had begun laying off employees from the teams for Dragon Nest and Aion, its two flagship games. The source said that the operations teams for both games were over-large, causing inefficient performance that led Shanda Games to lay people off.
