Perfect World Cuts Workforce by 100 Employees
TechWeb, 11/26/10
An industry rumor claims that Chinese online gaming company Perfect World (Nasdaq: PWRD) has cut staff by 5%, or about 200 employees, as part of an internal restructuring. Perfect World's SVP of HR Robert Xiao (Xiao Hong) confirmed the rumor, but said that only approximately 100 employees had been affected, adding that despite the layoffs, Perfect World is continuing to hire worldwide.
Xiao said that the company would increase global recruitment efforts in 2011. R&D and operations will be two areas of recruitment, with positions for game development engineers, internet developers, anti-Trojan and malware developers, game designers, game artists (in both traditional and CG), and Java engineers, as well as systems engineers, data analysts, video producers, and marketing staff.
As Perfect World expands into the field of digital entertainment, Xiao said, it will also seek to hire television presenters, and online literature editors, as well as translators of French, German, and English.
