China's Telcos Announce October 2010 Subscriber Totals

China's three main telecom operators have announced their subscriber totals for October 2010.
October saw the net addition of over 9.52 mln new mobile subscribers. China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) added approximately 5.26 mln new mobile subscribers, pushing the operator's total mobile user base to 575.02 mln, of which a total of over 16.98 mln subscribers used China Mobile's TD-SCDMA terminals during the month.
China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) added over 0.63 mln new GSM subscribers, bringing its total GSM user base to 152.15 mln, and added over 1.1 mln subscribers to its WCDMA 3G network, for a total of 11.66 mln WCDMA users.
China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) added 2.53 mln CDMA subs, taking its total to 85.51 mln.
Of total new mobile subs added in October, China Mobile took 55.22%, dropping its share of China's total mobile user base to 69.76%.
China Telecom lost 0.85 mln fixed-line subs, reducing its total to 177.43 mln, while China Unicom lost almost 0.42 mln fixed-line subs reducing its total to 99.28 mln.
China Telecom and Unicom enjoyed positive growth in broadband, with China Telecom adding 0.84 mln new broadband subs to reach 61.91 mln, and China Unicom adding 0.65 mln to reach 46.63 mln.
