Rumor: Google China Deputy R&D Director Resigns

A source close to the matter has revealed that Lin Bin, deputy director of the Google China Engineering Research Institute has resigned. The source did not know if Lin had any immediate plans.
Lin had served as the deputy director of the institute since joining Google in late 2006, and was responsible for engineering R&D, and also led the China mobile search and services group.
During his tenure at Google, Lin had led the group through the launch of numerous mobile products for the Chinese market, including localized search, mobile weather and stocks apps, mobile image search, and mobile Google Maps. Lin had also established the entertainment multimedia and desktop software teams at the institute, and participated in localization work for YouTube.
Editor's Note: According to a Tencent Tech news report, Lin has confirmed reports of his departure from Google, and had indicated that he will pursue an entrepreneurial venture within the mobile internet sector. Lin also revealed that Xuan Baogang, former director of the Google China Engineering Research Institute who left the institute one year ago, has possibly returned to work at Microsoft.
