GAPP Announces First Qualified E-Reader Vendors

China's General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) today announced the first batch of qualified e-reader vendors. The list names 21 companies, including China Publishing Group subsidiary CPG DigiMedia, Chinese e-reader maker Hanvon (002362.SZ), Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA) subsidiary Shanghai Shanda Networking, Beijing Newsmy Ideal Digital Technology, Chinese consumer electronics maker Aigo, and Beijing Founder Foread Media, a subsidiary of Founder Technology Group (600601.SH).
Editor's Note: According to Sina Tech, four companies, including CPG DigiMedia and People's Publishing House, have obtained rights to publish content for e-readers, while Shanda Literature and Hanvon are among 13 companies that have the right to duplicate and reformat content. Another eight firms, including Aigo, have only the right to distribute content, and five companies, including the China National Publications Import and Export Corporation (CNPIEC), have the right to import and export digital content for e-readers.
