MIIT Announces Jan-Sept 2010 IT Industry Investment Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released statistics on fixed asset investments in the national IT industry for September 2010, with total completed investment on IT projects valued greater than RMB 5 mln reaching RMB 65.6 bln, up 28% compared to July, up 40.8% compared to August, and up 50.2% YoY. As of the end of September, total completed investment for the year reached RMB 399.7 bln, up 42.3% YoY. RMB 143.8 bln in new assets were purchased in the first nine months of the year, up 41.2% YoY.
3,637 new projects were started in the first three quarters of 2010, up 23.4% YoY. The fastest growing sectors were external computer equipment, integrated circuits (IC), and informatization education products, each up 481%, 44% and 49% YoY respectively. The sector most in decline in terms of new projects was mobile, telecom and terminal equipment, down 27% YoY.
In the first nine months of 2010, the home audiovisual equipment and electronic device markets saw respective investment of RMB 9.7 bln and RMB 109 bln, with growth up 48.2% and 64.3% YoY each compared to declines of 24.8% and 3% YoY in the same period last year, with the photoelectric device sector growing 106% YoY. Total investment in the computer industry rose 83.8% YoY to reach RMB 37.1 bln, with total investment in the external computer equipment sector up 125.5% YoY. Total investment in the electronic component sector rose 21.2% YoY to RMB 71.4 bln. The telecommunications equipment sector was affected by a decline in investment from the telecom industry, down 17.5 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
For the first three quarters of 2010, total investment in eastern China rose 43.4% YoY to RMB 245.2 bln, up 41.6 percentage points compared to last year. Total investment in central China rose 59.7% YoY to RMB 109.3 bln, up 19.8 percentage points compared to last year. Total investment in western China rose 9% YoY to RMB 45.1 bln.
