China's Mapping Bureau Launches Online Map Service
Sina Tech, 10/22/10
China's State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (SBSM) has officially launched a GIS website, Tianditu.cn. In addition to standard maps, the website also offers users imagery and topographic maps.
The National Geographic Information Public Service platform has three editions: public, governmental, and classified, with Tianditu.cn representing the first.
Tianditu offers online maps of the whole world based on vector, imagery and 3D data sources. Tianditu provides China coverage from the national macro level down to the micro level of counties, townships and even villages. Map details include roads, waterways, borders, government districts, residential blocks, place names and topographical details. Tianditu covers over 300 prefecture-level and above cities nationwide in 0.6 meter resolution satellite imagery.
Tianditu can be accessed via a website or an API. On the website, users can view all maps in 2D or 3D, search by place name, calculate distance and area, and print screen images.
Authorized enterprises can use Tianditu's API to develop new GIS systems using SBSM data via Tianditu's integrated GIS application system or the API.
