MIIT Announces September 2010 Telecom Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its September 2010 telecom industry statistics. The figures for the month were as follows:
Telecom operating revenues were RMB 84.03 bln (USD 12.45 bln), bringing the cumulative year-to-date total to RMB 708.19 bln (USD 104.92 bln), up 6.7% over the same 9-month period of 2009. Core services accounted for RMB 667.51 bln (USD 98.89 bln) of the cumulative total, up 6.7% YoY. Year-to-date capital expenditure came to 179.16 bln (USD 26.54 bln), a 13.8% year-on-year decrease.
Total telephone subscribers saw a net increase of 9.2 mln in September, with mobile subscribers growing by approximately 10.24 mln to 833.3 mln, and fixed-line subscribers dropping by 1.07 mln to approximately 301.27 mln. Broken down by traditional fixed-line and PHS, the PHS subscriber base declined by approximately 0.89 mln subs to 32.82 mln, while traditional (i.e. non-PHS) fixed-line subscribers decreased by approximately 0.18 mln to 268.45 mln.
A total of over 72.89 bln SMS messages were sent during the month of September, bringing the total for the first 9 months of 2010 to 617.89 bln, a 7.5% increase over the figure during the same period of 2009.
Broadband added 2.32 mln new registered users in September to reach a total of 121.14 mln. In contrast, dial-up lost another 42,000 users, lowering the total dial-up user base to 6.32 mln.
