Beijing Morning Post, 10/12/10
At the P&T/Expo Comm China 2010 in Beijing yesterday, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) revealed its new "Yijutong" M2M service. In a demonstration, a device resembling an ordinary TD-SCDMA wireless fixed-line phone connected to a combustible gas detector, a carbon monoxide detector, a smoke detector, door and window alarms, and an air conditioner. In the event of greater than normal levels of gas or carbon monoxide, the phone will automatically dial or SMS the home-owner's mobile phone to alert them; if the door or window should be forced open, the phone will automatically sound an alarm and alert the homeowner. A China Mobile staffer said that the operator would begin trials of the service in Beijing before the end of the year, and may expand the service to connect to other home appliances.
