MIIT Announces August 2010 Telecom Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its August 2010 telecom industry statistics. The figures for the month were as follows:
Telecom operating core service revenues were RMB 80.65 bln (USD 11.88 bln), bringing the cumulative year-to-date total to RMB 588.29 bln (USD 86.64 bln), up 6.8% over the same 8-month period of 2009.
Total telephone subscribers saw a net increase of 7.55 mln in August, with mobile subscribers growing by 8.97 mln to 823.06 mln, and fixed-line subscribers dropping by 1.42 mln to 302.34 mln. Broken down by traditional fixed-line and PHS, the PHS subscriber base declined by approximately 1.25 mln subs to 33.71 mln, while traditional (i.e. non-PHS) fixed-line subscribers decreased by 0.17 mln to 268.64 mln.
Broadband added 1.89 mln new registered users in August to reach a total of 118.82 mln. Dial-up stayed nearly flat, losing 0.03 mln users, lowering the total dial-up user base to 6.36 mln.
