China to Regulate Group Buying Market

China Business Times, 9/26/10

The China International Electronic Commerce Center, a government entity directly subordinate to the Ministry of Commerce, has issued a set of standards for rating and approval of companies in the group buying industry in hopes of reigning in abuse. Group buying websites will be required to submit relevant information to gain approval to operate.

Industry sources have revealed that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), and other government agencies are considering similar measures.
