Wasu Taobao Launches TV Supermarket in Hangzhou

Taobao TV, operated by Wasu Taobao Digital Technology, launched its DTV shopping channel Taobao Bianli Chaoshi ("Taobao Supermarket") in Hangzhou today. Wasu Taobao GM Lu Liang said that the company would only offer TV supermarket services in Hangzhou this year, and will expand nationwide in 2011. The 250 products in the first batch of products available through the service include rice, oil, and food products, soft drinks and spirits, snacks, home furnishings and everyday goods, cosmetics and skin care products, and nursing products. In the second half of September, Wasu Taobao will add an additional 3,000 products, increasing the number of offerings available through the service to roughly what would be available in a 300 square-meter supermarket. Products will be available for delivery on a COD model, with seven-day unconditional return and free delivery guarantees.
Wasu Taobao Digital Technology is a joint venture between Hangzhou-based digital cable and IPTV provider Wasu Digital Television Media Group and Chinese B2C and C2C e-commerce site Taobao.
