Baidu Unveils Web-based Pinyin and Handwriting IME

Sina Tech, 9/17/10

Chinese internet search firm Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has added a Chinese "input method" button to the right of the search box on its homepage. After clicking the button, users can choose to enable one of Baidu's Chinese-language input method editors (IME), which include handwriting recognition and Pinyin. The handwriting IME, a collaboration with handwriting recognition software developer Hanvon (002362.SZ), has been adopted in many of Baidu's services. In July of this year, Baidu's web-based Pinyin IME began small-scale testing. At the time, only a portion of users could use the service on Baidu's homepage.

Baidu is yet to enable the service for its news, message board, question and answer, MP3 and other search products.
