Rumor: Tencent Licenses Japanese MMO

A rumor at the Tokyo Game Show today said that Chinese internet company Tencent (0700.HK) had inked a deal for Mainland China operating rights to the Capcom MMORPG Monster Hunter Frontier Online.
A source inside Tencent said that the company had long since licensed Monster Hunter, but that the company had never announced the news - possibly because the game "does not really fit into the environment of the current Chinese gaming market." The source said that the game could be launched net year or the year after.
As yet, there has been no official announcement from Tencent.
Editor's Note: According to overseas media, Capcom is looking into the possibility of partnering with a Chinese MMO operator. Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto said at the Tokyo Game Show 2010 today that the two companies will jointly release Monster Hunter Frontier Online in China next year, but refused to identify the other company.
