MIIT Announces July 2010 Telecom Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its July 2010 telecom industry statistics. The figures for the month were as follows:
Telecom operating revenues were RMB 81.64 bln (USD 12.04 bln), bringing the cumulative year-to-date total to RMB 539.14 bln (USD 79.52 bln), up 6.7% over the same 7-month period of 2009. Core services accounted for RMB 507.6 bln (USD 74.87 bln) of the cumulative total, up 6.7% YoY. Year-to-date capital expenditure came to 105.48 bln (USD 15.56 bln), a 29.2% year-on-year decrease.
Total telephone subscribers saw a net increase of 7.57 mln in July, with mobile subscribers growing by approximately 8.74 mln to 814.09 mln, and fixed-line subscribers dropping by 1.16 mln to approximately 303.76 mln. Broken down by traditional fixed-line and PHS, the PHS subscriber base declined by approximately 1.33 mln subs to 34.95 mln, while traditional (i.e. non-PHS) fixed-line subscribers increased by approximately 0.16 mln to 268.80 mln.
A total of over 69.91 bln SMS messages were sent during the month of July, bringing the total for the first 7 months of 2010 to 475.34 bln, a 6.7% increase over the figure during the same period of 2009.
Broadband added 1.79 mln new registered users in July to reach a total of 116.93 mln. In contrast, dial-up lost another 0.49 mln users, lowering the total dial-up user base to 6.39 mln.
