Rumor: Shanda to Subsidize E-Reader

According to a source within the company, Chinese Internet firm Shanda Interactive's (Nasdaq: SNDA) Bambook e-reader device will be priced below cost at approximately RMB 900. Potential losses will be determined by how much content users decide to purchase and download from Shanda's "Library in the Cloud" service. Bambook will only support downloads from the "Library in the Cloud" service.
Hou Xiaoqiang, CEO of Shanda Literature, said Shanda will announce pricing and qualifying conditions for Bambook trial purchase on August 6.
