Rumor: Baidu to Launch New Directory Portal

Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has reportedly registered the domain name Hao222.com for a new directory site to be launched in the near future, according to an industry insider. The source said Hao222.com would resemble Baidu's existing directory site Hao123 in layout and color scheme.

Editor's Note: Another industry source has reported that Baidu actually registered the Hao122 domain in 2004 alongside Hao123.com. A source at Hao123 disclosed that the two sites will be aimed at different user segments, but refused to specify what kind of content or a launch timetable. The source said that Hao222 currently is no different than Hao123 as far as both being directory navigation portals. The source said that Baidu has yet to determine precisely to what purpose Hao222 will be used, and that this will depend partly on analysis of internet traffic to the site. The content currently displayed on Hao222 is very similar to that on Hao123.
