MIIT Announces June 2010 Telecom Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its June 2010 telecom industry statistics. The figures for the month were as follows:
Telecom operating revenues were RMB 79.14 bln (USD 11.62 bln), bringing the cumulative year-to-date total to RMB 457.50 bln (USD 67.18 bln), up 6.5% over the same 6-month period of 2009. Core services accounted for RMB 434.55 bln (USD 63.81 bln) of the cumulative total, up 5.9% YoY. Year-to-date capital expenditure came to RMB 91.48 bln (USD 13.43 bln), a 29.2% year-on-year decrease.
Total telephone subscribers saw a net increase of 8.44 mln in June, with mobile subscribers growing by approximately 9.4 mln to 805.4 mln, and fixed-line subscribers dropping by 1.0 mln to approximately 304.9 mln. Broken down by traditional fixed-line and PHS, the PHS subscriber base declined by approximately 1.3 mln subs to 36.3 mln, while traditional (i.e. non-PHS) fixed-line subscribers increased by approximately 0.3 mln to 268.6 mln.
A total of over 68.9 bln SMS messages were sent during the month of June, bringing the total for the first six months of 2010 to 405.4 bln, a 6.2 % increase over the same period in 2009.
Broadband added 2.1 mln new registered users in June to reach a total of 115.1 mln. In contrast, dial-up lost another 130,000 users, lowering the total dial-up user base to 6.9 mln.
