Sina, Ovi to Obtain Online Map Licenses

According to information on the website of China's State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (SBSM), Chinese internet portal Sina's (Nasdaq: SINA) application for an A-class online mapping service license has been preliminarily approved, and is awaiting public review.
In addition to Sina, the SBSM has announced the following new companies to be approved for mapping services: Nokia Alliance Internet Services (the company behind Nokia's Ovi internet services in China), the Xi'an Institute of Prospecting and Mapping, and the Jiangxi Province No. 3 Institute of Mapping.
Sina's map search (map.sina.com.cn) spans landmark search, real-time traffic conditions, local life information search, nearby search, public transportation and driving directions, and train route lookup. The service currently has over 10 mln points of interest in its database, and public transportation information covering 201 cities.
