Tsinghua Tongfang Brings Pangoo TV Brand to China
Tencent Tech, 6/28/10
According to an industry source, Beijing-based high-tech conglomerate Tsinghua Tongfang (600100.SH) plans to officially bring its Pangoo brand of TVs to China in late July, and establish a Chinese branch company to sell the products via e-commerce and on-the-ground experience stores. The branded TV sets will not be sold through traditional home appliance retail stores; users will need to order the products online, to be shipped directly from the vendor.
The Pangoo brand was established in Hong Kong in 2003, and an Australia branch company was established in 2005, bringing the brand to Australian retailer Clive Peeters the following year. The Pangoo brand hit the German market the same year, and entered England in 2008 with the establishment of another branch company. In 2008, over 1 mln Pangoo-branded LCD TVs were sold worldwide.
The Chinese branch company will be headquartered in Beijing, with a flat-panel TV R&D and sales center to be established in Shanghai, and a factory and manufacturing base to be respectively located in Shenyang and Guangxi.
The official Pangoo China website (http://cn.pangoo.com) was launched in beta on June 18, and the first experience store will open for business in Shanghai in late July.
According to information on the official website, Pangoo has launched a total of three product lines in China - Tank, S500, and S700 - with 14 models between 19 and 47 inches.
The lowest-priced sets, the LC-19A58 and LC-19S500 from the Tank series, both sell for RMB 1,399, while the highest-priced model, the LC-47A58, also from the Tank series, sells for RMB 8,999.
