Longcheer Claims Innocence in SMT-HERO Smuggling Case
CCID, 6/24/10
Suzhou-based mobile phone circuit board foundry SMT-HERO Technology has been investigated by customs authorities under suspicion of smuggling. On June 23, mobile handset design house Longcheer publicly stated that it had cut cooperation with SMT-HERO two years ago, and that the company had no connection to SMT-HERO's smuggling case.
Authorities were led to believe that SMT-HERO had evaded tax by smuggling certain electronic components to fulfill manufacturing orders for its small customers. Between 2004 and 2008, SMT-HERO had manufactured handset mainboard products for Longcheer. Longcheer chairman Du Junhong said that during the two companies' cooperation, SMT-HERO primarily provided machining services for Longcheer, and that Longcheer provided all original materials to SMT-HERO by itself.
