Rumor: SARFT to Regulate Video Sharing in SNS

Jiefang Daily, 6/22/10

An industry source has revealed that the "Share This Video" feature common to many social networking sites (SNS) has drawn attention from China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT). The source revealed that any SNS lacking a video license that allows users to share videos could be considered to be in violation of SARFT's existing online video regulations, and could be fined or ordered to suspend service.

Spokepersons for Chinese SNS sites Kaixin001 and Renren said that the companies had not considered applying for online video licenses, and that to date they have heard no rumors about any pending crackdown.
