Rumor: Changyou MMO Stalled Indefinitely

According to a senior industry source, Sohu's (Nasdaq: SOHU) online gaming subsidiary Changyou (Nasdaq: CYOU) may once again postpone the launch of its self-developed 2.5D martial arts-themed MMORPG, The Duke of Mount Deer.

An anonymous source within Changyou said, "The game will not be released in the third quarter and we've already stopped talking about a launch date. It will launch when it's ready. No matter what steps are taken by senior management, practically the entire development team is pessimistic about the project. The project's lead programmer and head client software programmer have both already left."

Duke of Mount Deer was announced in May 2006, with development starting in 2007. The game was slated for a late 2008 release but was postponed until Q4 2009 for a variety of reasons. In Q2 2009, Changyou pushed back the game's launch to Q3 2010.
