Taobao Unveils New Logistics Platform
Hexun, 6/11/10
On June 11, Chinese B2C and C2C e-commerce company Taobao announced its new "Great Logistics Plan," encompassing three major areas: a logistics platform (located at e56.taobao.com) based on shipping data, transaction data, and seller ERP systems; Taobao's logistics partner system; and a logistics service standards system.
Gong Tao, the director of Taobao's logistics platform, said that the platform provides completely open API access, allowing logistics service providers, Taobao sellers, and external sellers, as well as other e-commerce sites, to use the platform for order and transaction information, shipping information, and seller ERP information. There is no need for Taobao staff to import or export data, allowing for automated operations, connecting directly with back-end logistics management and offline logistics delivery systems.
The system currently covers seven partner categories: providers of logistics park construction and logistics infrastructure investment; providers of workflow and operations standards services; providers of shipping and delivery services; independent software vendors providing technical support and data ports; providers of shipment packaging and package designs; providers of outsourced and after-sales services; and providers of financing services.
