Baidu Features Handwriting Input on Home Page

CCID, 6/12/10

Chinese internet search company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has moved the link for its web-based Chinese handwriting input method for web search to a more prominent position immediately to the right of the search box on its home page. The service, which requires no browser plugins, allows users to input characters using their mouse when searching the internet. Baidu had previously featured the service only on its senior citizens channel.

Editor's Note: The service is powered by handwriting recognition software developer Hanvon (002362.SZ). For more background information on this topic, please see "Baidu Adds OCR Functionality to Senior Search Service," MD 10/26/09 issue. Rumors that a link to the service would be displayed on Baidu's home page began cropping up in early May: "Rumor: Baidu to Unveil Input Accessibility Feature," MD 5/06/10 issue.
