Under Harsh Quotas, Guangxi iPhone Sales Grow

Sina Tech, 6/12/10

Guangxi Unicom has revealed that 1,988 iPhones were sold in Guangxi in May, a month-on-month increase of 178% over April. According to Guangxi Unicom, the operator has not only offered lower-priced iPhone contract plans, but also partnered with the China Construction Bank, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and the Everbright Bank to offer a new "0 Down Payment, 0 Interest, 0 Processing Fees" iPhone purchasing plan, which has also contributed to the increased iPhone sales. Guangxi Unicom confirmed that iPhone stocks were low all around the country in May.

Editor's Note: According to a ChinaByte article, a Guangxi Unicom employee revealed that the increase in Guangxi's iPhone sales could be attributed mainly to the fact that employees were tasked with meeting individual sales quotas, and many employees were forced to buy iPhones that they were then unable to sell to others.

"Maybe iPhone sales are better in big cities, but not in Guangxi, especially outside the cities of Nanning and Guilin," said the Unicom employee.
