Tencent Tech, 6/08/10
China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) spokeswoman Zhu Hong revealed recently that China National Radio (CNR) has signed agreements with 92 domestic video content providers for mobile video services. Zhu said that CNR's mobile television service already has 750,000 monthly paying subscribers through China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) network, as well as 1 mln free users, and has more than 100,000 subscribers each through both China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) and China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) mobile networks. CNR's mobile audio newspaper service, "Xinwen Baozhi Zhaiyao" ("Newspaper Highlights") sends out more than 300,000 copies every day.
CNR has been named as the reviewing authority for Nokia mobile video programming, and will replicate the relationship with Samsung, Motorola, Lenovo (0992.HK), and other mobile phone manufacturers, giving it control over mobile video programming content starting at the handset level.
In April 2010, CNR released software clients for its mobile service in Apple's App Store and in the Android Market mobile application store.
