Rumor: Shanda Sues Netmovie, Film Copyright Society
Sohu IT, 6/07/10
An industry source has revealed that Sunshine Media, the video licensing and distribution subsidiary of Chinese internet company Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA), has brought suit against the Film Copyright Society of China and online video content distributor Netmovie. The Dongcheng District People's Court in Beijing has accepted the suit for review.
On May 18, Sunshine discovered that Netmovie had begun providing unauthorized on-demand broadcast of the film "Just Another Pandora's Box" on its VV8 video website for internet cafes. Sunshine Media, which holds exclusive online distribution rights to the film, brought suit against Netmovie in the Dongcheng District People's Court.
Sunshine discovered that Netmovie had indicated that the film was provided by the Film Copyright Society of China, and that Sunshine Media had not licensed online on-demand broadcast rights to the film, leading the company to also name the Society in its lawsuit.
