Telecom Operators Announce April 2010 Subscriber Totals

China's three main telecom operators have announced their subscriber totals for April 2010.
April saw the net addition of 9.77 mln new mobile subscribers. China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) added almost 5.33 mln new mobile subscribers, pushing the operator's total mobile user base to over 544.2 mln, of which a total of over 8.40 mln subscribers used China Mobile's TD-SCDMA terminals during the month.
China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) added 733,000 new GSM subs, bringing its total GSM user base to nearly 148.0 mln, and added 681,000 subscribers to its WCDMA 3G network, for a total of over 5.5 mln WCDMA users.
China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) added 3.03 mln CDMA subs, taking its total to 68.48 mln.
Of total new mobile subs added in April, China Mobile took 54.51%, dropping its share of China's total mobile user base to 71.03%.
China Telecom lost 1.2 mln fixed-line subs, reducing its total to over 183 mln, while China Unicom lost approximately 0.2 mln fixed-line subs dropping its total to over 101.6 mln.
China Telecom and Unicom enjoyed positive growth in broadband, with China Telecom adding 810,000 mln new broadband subs to reach 56.65 mln, and China Unicom adding 596,000 to reach 42.1 mln.
